Hi g.howard!
You know I am not sure if this is similar to the recipe you are searching for but I thought it might be worth a shot! I was emailed this recipe awhile back and it is an authentic recipe:

Recipe by Bonnie Waliezer, "My Great Grandmother used to make them and the recipe has passed on down to me as part of my Norwegian heritage. It is only one of the many traditional holiday goodies we make."

Norwegian Fattigmands

6 egg yolks, beaten
1 Tbs. melted butter
4 Tbs. sugar
6 Tbs. cream
dash of salt (1/8 tsp)
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour

Mix all well. Dough is quite stiff. Roll out thin on a lightly
floured board. Cut in diamond shapes, make a slit in the center of
each diamond and pull one end through.Drop in hot oil and fry until a
light golden brown. Watch carefully as they brown fast. Remove from
oil and drain on paper. Keep in air tight can. Before serving shake
gently in a bag with powdered sugar.
