Hi Elaine :-) I found these two recipes on the ineternet. I hope that one of them is what you are looking for.
Brown Sugar Sauce
1/4 cup butter 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour 2/3 cup packed brown sugar 1 cup cold milk (maybe you could use whipping cream instead of milk) 1/4 cup brandy 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Melt butter in a small saucepan set over medium heat. In a medium-size bowl, stir flour with sugar. Then whisk into melted butter until mixture is moistened. Stir in milk until smooth. Cook, whisking frequently, until thickened and smooth, about 5 minutes. Stir in brandy and vanilla. Remove from heat.
Serve right away over Apple Coffee Cake with Brown Sugar Sauce. Or cover and refrigerate for a week or more. Reheat just before serving.
Amber Sauce
1 cup brown sugar (firmly packed) 1/2 cup light corn syrup 1/4 cup butter or margarine 1/2 cup whipping cream
In a 4 cup measuring cup or bowl, mix all ingredients. Microwave, uncovered on High 3 to 4 minutes. Stir to blend; serve warm. Makes 1 1/2 cups. This is a sweet sauce for steamed plum puddings, or to pour over pound cake slices, or even over sliced fresh fruit, such as peaches.
